Meet Joanna Pease

Joanna Pease is a retired physician and a lifelong birder, whose ear for bird calls and bird song is incredible. If you have not yet joined her on one of the field trips she leads for us, put that on your birding bucket list!

We asked Joanna a few questions about what inspires her to volunteer with Detroit Bird Alliance:

What initially motivated you to volunteer with Detroit Bird Alliance? 

I wanted to share my love of nature and inspire others to appreciate and care about our beautiful planet

How long have you been volunteering with Detroit Bird Alliance? 

Off and on for many years (more than 30!)

What do you enjoy most about volunteering with Detroit Bird Alliance? 

Bringing the joy of nature to field trip participants

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering with Detroit Bird Alliance?

It’s very fulfilling to volunteer…with lots of great support from Detroit Bird Alliance staff.

What do you wish other people knew about Detroit Bird Alliance?

The sheer number of field trips and volunteering opportunities that exist!
